The mission of the project

The project empowers families and their children to appropriate urban agriculture in the community of “La Estrella, Siloé”. It promotes sustainable agriculture, food security, and the processing and distribution of food and non-food products.

Objectives

1. Create Urban gardens with people of the community while keeping the principles of sustainable agriculture.
2. Allow an easy and economic access to fruits and legumes through home gardens installed in the community of Siloé.
3. Create an agricultural entrepreneurship ecosystem in the community of Siloé.

The program of urban agriculture in Siloé has four steps

1. Train members of the community on basic concepts of agriculture.
2. Install home gardens and track their evolution. People here start to produce food to consume themselves.
3. Train the people the basics on entrepreneurship. The people here are producing enough to trade with others in the community.
4. Create local markets allowing people to sell their own vegetables and increase the income for their families. Start creating small cooperatives and enterprises managed by the community leaders.
